IBM implements Blue Gene/P supercomputer in Timisoara

IBM Romania and the West University of Timisoara (western Romania) announced the implementation of the IBM Blue Gene/P solution, the first supercomputer in Romania accessible to complex interdisciplinary academic research projects, informs an IBM press release.

IBM’s BlueGene/P supercomputer will be used by West University experts at the Advanced Environmental Research Institute (ICAM), mainly for advanced environmental research representing the implementation, under the Sectoral Operational Programme ‘Increasing economic competitiveness’, of a project won by the University in 2010 and financed by the European Union, the Romanian government and the West University of Timisoara.
The IBM Blue Gene/P solution offers ultra-scalability, unparalleled performance, economy with the space occupied by the supercomputer, very low power consumption, high availability, easy management and programming and compatibility with open standards. The IBM Blue Gene/P infrastructure will allow carrying out research under partnership agreements in areas such as complex chemistry, physics, biology or biotechnology simulation requiring intensive, high performance computing; mathematical methods and new algorithms for the computational modeling of complex systems and processes; complex numerical computation in materials science, astrophysics, biotechnology, molecular dynamics; research in the field of sustainable energy (regeneration, efficiency, economics); hazard study: weather, earth physics, water monitoring, flooding; scientific support for emergencies monitoring infrastructure.

IBM solution

Solution consist in:

  • one BlueGene/P rack with 4096 cores and 4TB RAM, 32 I/O nodes and 13Tfps
  • 4 power servers p520
  • 2 DS3524and EXP3000 – totally 2×48 SAS HDD
  • One Cisco Nexus 7010 Switch with 64x10GbE and 98x1GbE
  • SUSE Linux for Power and BG/P specific software

The solution is interconnected with the whole customer IT services and infrastructure, and it is a platform for developing the biggest Computing centre in Romania – accessible to academic research projects.

Jailbreaking Is Not A Crime: You got it? You own it!

You bought it. You own it. Tell the Copyright Office: let me install whatever software I want on my phone, tablet, or video game system.

The Problem – Smartphones, tablets, and video game consoles are powerful computers with lots of untapped potential. Yet many of these devices are set up to run only software that’s been approved by the manufacturer.  Modifying a device to run independent software – known as jailbreaking – is important to programmers, enthusiasts, and users. But jailbreaking creates legal uncertainty. Some device manufacturers claim that jailbreaking violates Section 1201 of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), which carries stiff penalties.

The Solution – EFF is asking the U.S. Copyright Office to declare that jailbreaking does not violate the DMCA, and we need your help. In 2010, the Copyright Office said jailbreaking smartphones doesn’t violate the DMCA.  This year, we’re asking them to renew that exemption (otherwise it will expire) and expand it to cover tablets. We’re also asking for a new exemption to allow jailbreaking of video game consoles.

How You Can Help – The Copyright Office needs to hear from people who depend on the ability to jailbreak to write, use, and/or tinker with independent software (from useful apps to essential security fixes) for smartphones, tablets, and game consoles. You can submit comments online at this link.

Here are some questions you might want to address in your comments:

  1. Which jailbreaking exemption are you supporting—smartphones/tablets, video game consoles, or both?
  2. What’s your background (i.e., are you a developer, hobbyist, academic, independent researcher, user, etc.)?
  3. What device do you want to ensure you have the legal authority to jailbreak?
  4. Please explain why you want to jailbreak this device. What limitations do you face if you aren’t able to jailbreak it? Is there software you couldn’t run, computing capabilities you wouldn’t have, cool things you couldn’t do, etc.?
  5. If you’re a developer, did an online application store or console manufacturer reject your app or game? If so, what reasons did they give?
  6. Is there anything else you want to tell the Copyright Office?

Concrete examples will help show the Copyright Office why they should renew and expand the exemptions for jailbreaking. Send your comments to the Copyright Office at http://www.copyright.gov/1201/comment-forms/. Where the form says “Comment number(s) of proposed classes of works to which you are responding,” enter a “3” if you’re writing about game consoles or a “5” if you’re writing about smartphones or tablets. You might consider also entering a “4″ to submit your comments in support of an exemption request proposed by the Software Freedom Law Center to allow jailbreaking of “personal computing devices.”

Comments are due by February 10 at 5 PM Eastern Time.  After you send comments to the Copyright Office, please also send a copy of your comments to dmca-comments@eff.org so that we can see what people are saying.

WordPress DB repair builtin

Database CORRUPT WORDPRESS

Recently I had issues with the Visual / HTML WYSIWYG editor in WordPress, after using both modes for posting, and switching from one to another I started to have this issue with my option to switch missing for good.

Automatic Database Optimizing

Added with Version 2.9, there is automatic database optimization support, which you can enable by adding the following define to your wp-config.php file only when the feature is required

 define('WP_ALLOW_REPAIR', true);

The script can be found at {$your_site}/wp-admin/maint/repair.php

Please Note: That this define enables the functionality, The user does not need to be logged in to access this functionality when this define is set. This is because its main intent is to repair a corrupted database, Users can often not login when the database is corrupt.

Repair it now

DB Repair WordPress

View before editing wp-config.php

Go to your wordpress folder, locate and append this to your wp-config.php

/** Sets up WordPress to automatically repair database */
 define('WP_ALLOW_REPAIR', true)

Now go to your location of db repair: {$your_site}/wp-admin/maint/repair.php

You should see now this:

Chose any of the above options as desired, I did a run with both of them starting with Repair and Optimize Database option

Înregistrarea legală a zamolxianismului ca religie în România şi Republica Moldova

Nici un alt popor din Europa nu are o tradiţie mai bogată în comunicarea omului cu lumile de dincolo, cu planurile nevăzute ale existenţei. Noi românii suntem moştenitorii unui tezaur spiritual format din obiceiuri, credinţe şi superstiţii moştenite de la străbunii noştri geto-daci şi religia lor ancestrală, zamolxianismul.
După revoluţia din 1989 s-au produs schimbări semnificative în România şi Republica Moldova. S-a dezvoltat un interes crescând pentru cunoaşterea trecutului spiritual al poporului român şi a determinanţilor caracteristici sufletului românesc şi culturii româneşti.
Zamolxianismul, ca religie, a continuat să existe de-a lungul mileniilor şi se manifestă viguros încă şi astăzi prin tradiţiile şi ritualurile practicate mai ales în satele româneşti sub forma credinţei în divinităţile populare, precum sunt zânele, ursitoarele, sânzienele, dochiile, ielele, drăgaicele, Dragobetele, Caloianul ca să enumăr doar o parte dintre ele. Toate aceste tradiţii formează substratul actual al unei religii ancestrale, zamolxianismul. Dintre aceste obiceiuri unele au creat un sincretism cu religia creştin ortodoxă.
Religia zamolxiană se poate alătura altor culte practicate şi acceptate legal ca religii în România şi Republica Moldova. Prin aceasta se creează o bază legală unei realităţi care persistă din timpuri imemoriale pe teritoriile actuale ale României şi Republicii Moldova: zamolxianismul nu a încetat să existe chiar dacă în timp a fost acoperit la suprafaţă de vălul religiei creştin ortodoxe. În prezent, datorită unui sincretism parţial cu religia creştin ortodoxă, anumite practici zamolxiene sunt acceptate doar sub patronajul creştinismului ortodox.
Libertatea religioasă este asigurată legal de constituţiile României şi Republicii Moldova. Cetăţenii acestor ţări au dreptul, confinţit prin practică îndelungată, numit dreptul cutumei, să se întoarcă la rădăcinile spirituale ale poporului român prin a crea o legalitate a religiei străbunilor neamului.
Nu este posibil să se reconstituie zamolxianismul timpurilor geto-dacilor, cel practicat de personalităţi istorice precum sunt Deceneu sau Decebal. În zilele noastre putem reconstitui zamolxianismul din tradiţia vie populară românească. Prin dreptul cutumei, alături de alte culte cu statut legal în România şi Republica Moldova, este necesar să-şi facă prezenţa legală şi zamolxianismul, religia moştenită de la străbunii noştri geto-daci.

PsExec to collect data

Three easy steps in gathering data from your domain with psexec.exe

1. Create a new file query.bat to contain:

@echo off
 setlocal EnableDelayedExpansion
 for /F "tokens=1" %%i in (servers.txt) do (
 psexec \\%%i ipconfig /all >> ipconfig_all.txt
 )
 exit

Note: this will query only ipconfig /all from given server list

2. Create a list of servers.txt with desired IP’s / Hostname’s

3. Run query.bat and wait for results.

- results will be posted in ipconfig_all.txt

Make sure you have servers.txt, query.bat and psexec.exe in same folder
